Remembrance of the Dead (Dodenherdenking) is held annually on the 4th of May at the Damsquare in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On this day we commemorate the lost lives of civilians and soldiers during World War II. Remembrance of the Dead was yesterday, today it's Liberation Day. On this day we celebrate that we are able to live in freedom in the Netherlands. We celebrate that we are liberated from German occupation in 1945 in Europe and the Japanese occupation in Asia. We have been free from war and oppression in the Kingdom of the Netherlands since the liberation.
