I slept on the BAIT x ASICS Gel Saga "Phantom Lagoon", got fooled when I wanted to pick up my pair of Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte V Volcano's (wanna know how I got fooled? click right here) and the Air Huarache “Bright Teal” sold out at the moment I clicked on the "add to bag" button. That's a lot of sneaker related misfortune in a very short time. Now, I do not have A burning hole in my pocket, but I can not resist the urge of buying a sneaker that might never come out again. Once the shoe is sold out, you will not ever get a second change to get a pair for retail price. Re-sellers love it, they take advantage of the fact that you as a sneaker loving consumer can't get the shoe anywhere else but Ebay or Marktplaats for way too much money. This does not apply to every sneaker release, some sneakers will be restocked or retroed, the Jordan brand does this very often.
No such thing as third time lucky for me. I wasn't expecting any more hot sneaker releases for the rest of the month, until I saw a preview of the BAIT x ASICS Gel Lyte III “Basics Model-001 Vanquish's on Hypebeast. Did some research on the release and found out that the only way to get them shipped to Europe was to win a pair in your size by participating in a raffle. Meaning that it's impossible for European consumers to purchase a pair in the BAIT webshop without a winning raffle ticket. I've never won anything online, so I just gave it a try.
To enter the raffle you had to:
- give up your shoe size
- like/follow BAIT on social media
- create an account on their site
- (The artwork wasn't an obligation, I just created it and BAIT happened to like it on Instagram)
And that's exactly what I did. After days of waiting I finally received a mail from bait with the following information: "Congratulations on winning the raffle for the BAIT x Asics Gel Lyte III “BASICS Model-001 Vanquish”! Please follow the link below to purchase your shoes. Please note that your link is only good for one time use for the purchase of a pair of size 7 and will expire on Thursday, 12/12/13 at 11:59 pm PST."
I didn't hesitate for one moment and copped my first pair of Asics. I did not receive them yet tho, you'll notice when I do.
