Decisions, everybody has to make them. But some people just don't know how to make them on their own, or they're afraid to rely on themselves. Now I'm not trying to tell you that I'm better than anyone or anything like that, but it just bothers me that so many people ignore their knowledge of self. Especially people with potential, talent and style. We all think that we have a strong awareness of out choices and reasons for our actions. But most of the time we don't. And the people around you will take advantage of it. Constantly telling you what's right or wrong, cool or uncool, smart or stupid and so on. Some people do it with bad intentions and some people just like to share their opinion with you. But don't forget that everything they say is based on what they think is best for you. Pay attention to the word "think", they don't know. You're the one that is supposed to know what's best for you. How? Self-esteem. Feeling good about yourself Will improve rational decision-making and filter convincing lies from others. This doesn't mean that confident people are immune to opinions of others, because there is one more factor, the biggest one: emotion. Emotional memories have a lot of impact on you. All your subconscious decisions are based on emotions and memories and might also be affected by your environment. Think about it. Let's take a product for example. Why do I keep on buying Nikes? Yeah, I like sneakers, but why do I expect Nike products to be qualitative and comfortable? Because the first couple of times I bought the product I was very satisfied. In short: the brand won my trust and I kept making my decisions based on the first experience(s). Works the same way with people, they sympathize and convince. After they won your trust they'll be able to influence your decisions making behavior because everything is based on your first impressions. It's called priming. We all do it, subconsciously.
Artist and other creatives have to deal with opinions every single day. It's kinda sad that some of them get overwhelmed by the opinions of their audience. They might get frustrated, feel misunderstood or start to doubt themselves. Should I draw this? Will people like this photo? Are my friends going to love this? Do my lyrics/beats sound good enough? Do people like the style? I admit it, I've been there for a while with my art (a year ago) and sometimes I fall back into it. Only because I want to create beautiful things. Things that people want to look at and talk about. I'm passionate like many other artists. We all have an audience, they all talk about our creations. Just remember that you'll never have to completely ignore all the opinions, just filter them. some are actually really helpful and genuine. Take them and put them in you own context, driven by your self-knowledge. This isn’t only for my fellow artist tho, this is for everyone with a passion. And after every doubtful phase You should realize that you can create/wear/do/admire whatever you want to, when you want to, and how you want to.You should be doing what you like. If you like it like that? Do it like that. Go for self, do for self. The rest will follow.
